After sweeping a pair of thrilling road games last week, the South Dakota Coyotes find themselves in a logjam with three other teams (South Dakota State, IUPUI, Oral Roberts) atop the Summit League women's basketball standings.

USD (13-5/4-1) will try to extend a three-game winning streak with a pair of home games this week.

First up it's one of the two winless teams in conference play, Fort Wayne. The Mastodons (4-14/0-5) are last in the league in scoring, have shot less than 38 percent in every one of their Summit losses, and have only topped 40 percent from the floor once in their last 14 games. Despite their poor shooting, IPFW has lost three of their last four by four points or less. That's due in large part to a defense that leads the league in steals and forced turnovers.

Kamilah Carter is eighth in the league in scoring, Keanna Gary leads the conference with 12 rebounds a game.

Tipoff is 7:00 PM in Vermilion, Thursday night.

Saturday will be another test for the top ranked Coyote offense as IUPUI brings the number one defense in the Summit League to the DakotaDome.

The Jaguars (13-5/4-1) have allowed the fewest points per game (53) in the first three weeks of conference action. USD's offense scores better than 76 a game.

IUPUI has been without pre-season all-conference forward Akilah Sims for the last two games. Mikale Rogers has more than picked up the slack, scoring 45 points in the last two, hitting an impressive 63 percent from the floor.

Tipoff is 1:30 PM in Vermilion, Saturday aftrenoon.

Last week, the Coyotes upped their current win streak to three games with a 96-94 double overtime win at North Dakota State, and then a emotional 63-58 win at South Dakota State, USD's first win in Brookings since 1990.

Senior guard Nicole Seekamp was instrumental in both victories, notching a double-double in Fargo (25 points/10 assists), including hitting a shot at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. She then scored seven points in the final minute in Brookings to secure Sunday's win. Those two performances earned her Summit League Player of the Week honors.

I talked with USD head coach Amy Williams about those road wins and this week's games with Fort Wayne and IUPUI:
