Police are closer to making an arrest in a stabbing early Wednesday near downtown Sioux Falls.

A 23-year-old man was stabbed and cut sometime between midnight and 9am Wednesday on South Dakota Avenue, and Officer Sam Clemens says the victim, a transient, was not cooperating with police.

But Clemens says the investigation has continued, and he says police now know that the man was outside when passersby called police.

He also says police have a suspect in mind, but have made no arrests.

The victim's wounds were not severe, and Clemens says he was expected to be released from a hospital soon.
