Hunger is a problem in our nation, even here in the Sioux Empire. Did you realize that 190,000 people receive food and personal care items through Feeding South Dakota's various programs each year?

Nearly 50% of those people are under the age of 18. 11% are 60 years or older. 78% live in households with incomes at or below the federal poverty level, and a staggering 77% of Feeding South Dakota's clients have a high school degree or GED, 23% have post-high school education.

What's really scary, many of these people in need of assistance are our neighbors, coworkers, elderly couples we know, and the parents of our kids' friends.

Life events can pop up at a moments notice, that force people to choose between paying for food, or paying for things like medical expenses, transportation, utilities, the rent, or your mortgage.

Fortunately around this time each year, different businesses throughout the area team up with Feeding South Dakota to help combat hunger. One of those businesses is Year Round Brown. Their annual "Tan-For-A-Can" event is going on now through (November 22) at any Year Round Brown location.

The mission is simple, check your cupboards at home for different non-perishable food items that can be given to the local food pantry on behalf of Feeding South Dakota. Then take your donation to a participating Year Round Brown location from now through Thanksgiving to receive a FREE tan, along with 50% off all red tag lotions and 20% off all other lotions.

As they say at Year Round Brown, looking so good, never felt so great!

What's that you don't need a tan, but still want to give? Not a problem. Simply drop off your perishable food items in one of the drop off bins at a Year Round Brown location and join the fight to help stop hunger.

One more important thing, please share this news with your family, friends, and co-workers. Encourage everyone you know to get into the fight!
