Sioux Falls police say a woman from Tea is accused of shoplifting more than $2,000 in merchandise from five stores, mostly in the Empire Mall.

Officer Sam Clemens says a loss prevention employee at Kohl's on South Louise Avenue saw the woman in the store around 4pm Tuesday and recognized her from previous incidents.

Clemens says the employee told police the woman was shoplifting again:

Clemens says 30-year-old Katie Marie Smit of Tea was arrested and charged with grand theft-shoplifting and possession of stolen property. He says in addition to the clothing from Kohl's, the shoplifted merchandise was valued at $700 from The Buckle, $300 from the Boot Barn, $130 from Old Navy and $50 from Francesca's, for a total of $2,200 in stolen merchandise.
