Tea Woman Charged in Infant’s Death
A rural Tea woman is free on her own recognizance after she was charged in the accidental death this past May of a three-month-old baby in her day care.
Captain Paul Niedringhaus of the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office says the baby boy was found unresponsive May 9th in the day care operated by Cindy Jo Hanisch just outside of Sioux Falls and was pronounced dead the same day.
He says Hanisch was charged this week with contributing to the abuse of neglect of a child, a Class 1 misdemeanor.
Niedringhaus says the child’s death was an accident, but as the day care provider, the 41-year-old Hanisch was responsible. He would not go into details about what caused the baby’s death.
He says she turned herself in at the Minnehaha County Jail on Friday morning and was released on a personal recognizance bond.
