Have you ever wondered what it costs to raise a child in this day in age?  No need to sit down and figure it out, the government has done it for you.

According to figures just relased by the U.S. Agriculture Department, from the time you bring that little bundle of joy home from the hospital to the time you send him or her out the door to college, you'll likely spend upwards of $300,000.

For a child in a middle income family, the expenses, on average, range between $12,600 and $14,700 per year.  That's taking into account the cost of food, clothing, education and putting a roof over their head.

All said and done, for a child born in 2012, the government figures parents will likely spend around $300,000 per child over an 18 year period - and that doesn't include the cost of college.
