A Daily Mail article alleging that Alec Baldwin‘s wife Hilaria was tweeting during James Gandolfini‘s funeral has since been removed from the outlet’s website. But not before it sent Baldwin into a homophoboic fit of rage and he deleted his Twitter account.

The Daily Mail has since admitted that thanks to some timestamp confusion, the story was indeed incorrect and has been removed from its website.

“We accept Mrs Baldwin’s assertions that she did not Tweet from the funeral and apologise for any distress caused,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “But this was a genuine misunderstanding caused by a baffling defect in the Twitter platform and we would also call on Mr. Baldwin to withdraw his homophobic and threatening remarks.”

Said remarks including Baldwin calling George Stark, the original writer of the article, “a toxic little queen” and threatening him with tweets like, “If I put my foot up your f–ing ass, George Stark, but I’m sure you’d dig it too much.”

Baldwin has since apologized to GLAAD for the outburst, saying his remarks had nothing to do with “issues of anyone’s sexual orientation” and that he’d never advocate harm against anyone just for being gay.

Next thing you know, he’ll be telling us Farrah Abraham’s sex tape really WAS meant to stay private.
