The Salvation Army is looking for a few good bell ringers. The Red Kettle Campaign is the largest fundraising effort of the year for the Salvation Army, and this year it really could use a few more volunteers.

Salvation Army officials in Sioux Falls say the annual Red Kettle Campaign is behind nearly $10,000 in collecting funds this year. And the only way to turn things around is to get more bell ringer volunteers.

"A kettle without a bell ringer really attracts no income. We don't put them out. We do lock the kettle on, but we don't put them out when there's not a bell ringer," said Major Thomas Riggs of the Salvation Army.

Riggs believes the decline can be attributed to the bitter cold temps and higher-paying jobs for people this season.

This time last year the Salvation Army had 50 bell ringers covering 30+ locations throughout the Sioux Empire. This year, only 20 people have volunteered so far.

All the funds they collect are used throughout the year to provide services for the many children, families, and senior citizens in the area who are in need.

The Red Kettle Campaign runs through Christmas Eve. If you'd like to get into the Christmas spirit and help out, call 605-338-6649 ext. 318 today!
