The Smartwatch is Here

Samsung debuted its smartwatch Wednesday (September 4th), called Galaxy Gear, beating out competitors including Google, Apple and Sony to be first to the market with its product. The smartwatch has a 1.63-inch touchscreen with a stainless steel frame and a rubber watchband that comes in six different colors. It also has a camera, a button that lets users give the device voice commands, and its built-in microphone and speakers can be used to make and receive phone calls. The Gear will have more than 70 apps when it's launched early next month, however only 10 of them will be able to be kept on the smartwatch at any given time because of its 4GB limit. The Gear doesn't function as an independent device, as it has to be constantly connected via Bluetooth to another Samsung Galaxy device, such as the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4 or Galaxy S III. The Gear will sell for $299.

Are you one of those people that just HAVE to have the latest technology the minute it comes out, or do you wait a generation (or two) before purchasing to make sure the bugs are worked out and the price comes down a little?

And am I the only one that grew up watching shows like Star Trek and Get Smart and are now fascinated by watching the fake technology of those shows come to life today?
