Wrap 2

Here’s a look at the week’s top stories and what had people around Sioux Falls talking:

Police say a driver who caused a seven-vehicle crash in Sioux Falls may have been driving as fast as 100 mph. One person died and six people were injured in the crash that happened just before noon on Thursday.  The Blazer, driven by Troy Hohn, 32, of Sioux Falls was pronouced dead at the scene. The Chevrolet then rear-ended a Dodge Durango and created a domino-effect series of collisions. There were no skid marks in the area where the Blazer hit the Durango.

Nearly 1,000 people have been injured after a meteor exploded in the atmosphere Friday over Russia‘s Ural Mountains with the power of an atomic bomb. The sonic blast from the hurtling space rock shattered countless windows and deeply frightened thousands, with some elderly women declaring the world was coming to an end. The meteor — estimated to be about 10 tons — entered the Earth’s atmosphere at a hypersonic speed of at least 33,000 mph and shattered about 18-32 miles above the ground.

A flock of robins were spotted in southeastern South Dakota this week. They may be in for a shock and looking for food and shelter with more snow in the forecast next week. however, it’s got us thinking spring. Thanks for coming back, our little winged friends.

If you are going to kill a whooping crane, be prepared to fork over some big time bucks. A Miller, SD. man found that out when he pleaded guilty to killing one of the extremely rare birds. Jeff Blachford may not hunt or fish in the United States for 2 years and was fined $85,000. Dear, diary…don’t screw with whoopers.

Things to do in Sioux Falls this Weekend

Could we be looking at another snowstorm in the upper Midwest? Some signs are pointing to a significant snow event next week. Some forecasters are saying this system that is building has a little energy to it and we’ve heard it could pack 8″ – 12″ of new snow for us. We’ll keep you posted.

  • Wednesday Night A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 7. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
  • Thursday Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 18. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
  • Thursday Night Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 10. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
  • Friday A slight chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 22. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

A pizza delivery woman was a victim of a robbery earlier in the week when 4 teenagers relieved her of $40 worth of pizza pie and wings on the east side. To add insult to injury, the boys then threw snowballs at her and ran away. Seriously?

Today’s definition of irony: A daily customer and unofficial mascot for the Heart Attack Grill, a Las Vegas diner infamous for its calorie-laden menu and waitresses in nurse garb, has died. 52-year-old John Alleman died Monday as he waited at a bus stop in front of the Fremont Street restaurant. He died of a heart attack.

Tweet of the Week: “57th and Minnesota for a car vs deer.. No injuries.. Deer took off.. Deer wanted on hit and run charges” – Tea Storm Chasers

Video of the Week: How do you suppose kids would react to Honey Boo Boo? Priceless!
