It seems like every year things that happened in the past get older. And the old things get the further in the past they happened. But, if this didn't happen, what would we have to write about on the internet?

Twenty years ago it was 1996, a year of huge albums. Some were last great albums from amazing artists and others were the collections that set up dominating careers that set the stage for the next decade at least.

    2Pac - 'All Eyes on Me'

    2Pac's Death Row Records debut album came out in February 1996 exploding on the strength of the single "California Love." This double album had sold over ten million copies to date, and despite some aging filler, it still holds up.

    Spice Girls - 'Spice'

    1996 was the year that gave birth to The Spice Girls and unleashed their Girl Power on the world. For a couple years at least.

    The album Spice came out near the end of he year and spawned the songs "Wannabe," "Say You'll be There" and "2 Become 1."

    Fugees - 'The Score'

    The same day the All Eyez on Me came out, Fugees' The Score hit stores. The songs "Killing Me Softly", "Fu-Gee-La", and "Ready or Not" introduced the world to Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel.

    Jay Z - 'Reasonable Doubt'

    The empire that Jay Z presides over in 2016 started with this album in the summer of 1996. Now considered one of the best rap albums of all time, the collection featured apprentices from Mary J. Blige, and The Notorious B.I.G.

    Weird Al Yankovic - 'Bad Hair Day'

    The best Weird Al album of the 90s came out in March of 1996. Al told Mrs. Brady all about living in and Amish Paradise, retold the story of Forrest Gump, and made prank phone calls to the tune of TLC's 'Waterfalls.'

    Metallica - 'Load'

    It doesn't matter what the Heavy Metal Hipsters say, Load is a great album. it's even batter now that we're a couple decades removed from what was some silly style chasing going on in the videos. From first track to last track it's 14 hard, rocking songs.
