Things That Will Cost More in 2014
It is probably no surprise that prices are rising again in the year ahead of us. But maybe the categories where the price hikes will be the steepest will be a revelation, if only because they never seem to stop rising!
Along with these price hikes are some suggestions on how you can still save a few bucks when purchasing these items.
- Food prices could go up as much as 3 to 5%- -Tip: Shop supermarket circulars and match coupons to what is on sale, put together menus with these sale items and you could save up to 40% on those grocery bills.
- Postage- -The Postal Service continues to operate in the red year-after-year, so of course stamps are going up again- -Tip: Buy Forever stamps now, (a lot of them, if you can) before they go up.
- Housing- -Expected to increase between 3 and 5%, the housing market is definitely on the rebound in certain areas of the country. Tip: Although negotiating the price of your home may still be important, shopping around for the best rate on a fixed 30 year mortgage could save you much more.
- Travel- -Gee, here’s a surprise! Not really. Airfare to almost everywhere except Europe will be rising, along with the hotel prices in popular business destination cities. Tip: Buy your airfare on Tuesday afternoons when airlines announce specials and promotions and check websites like Trivago for hotel price comparisons where you’re traveling.
