The popularity of bacon is at an all-time high - not that there's anything wrong with that. But it's creating a supply problem which means prices are going up.

Simply put - there are literally not enough piggies going to market.

Fans of the fatty, succulent meat goodness are even throwing parties in it's honor. That's right. Bacon parties are popping up everywhere. My wife and I attend one yearly hosted by our good friends Ray and Brenda. Everyone brings a unique bacon dish in hopes of "wowing" the rest of the party.

It's this kind of behavior - and I wouldn't miss it for the world - that has caused pork belly prices to increase 20 percent in January. In fact, according to USA Today, the bacon reserves are at the lowest since 1957!

Perhaps stocking up isn't a bad idea.

No worries about actually running out, though. South Dakota pork producers and hog farmers got this.

Thanks, guys.
