According to the Los Angeles County Coroner, Tom Petty died from a massive accidental drug overdose. Petty passed away October 2, 2017 at the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, California.

Variety is reporting that the coroner's report shows “multisystem organ failure due to resuscitated cardiopulmonary arrest due to mixed drug toxicity" as the cause of death.

One of the drugs found in Petty's body was Fentanyl, the same drug that was found in Prince's body at the time of his death. According to TMZ.com, Petty's autopsy report shows several drugs in his system including Fentanyl patches, oxycodone, Restoril, Xanax, Celexa, acetyl fentanyl and desprponyl fentanyl.

Petty had several medical problems including emphysema, knee problems and a fractured hip, but continued to tour.
