South Dakota State Trooper Andrew Steen remains in critical condition following surgery Thursday to relieve pressure on his brain.

Doctors at Sanford say this type of surgery is common with head injuries like Steen sustained in an early morning chase through Sioux Falls Wednesday morning.

Steen was injured following a traffic stop that escalated when the 25 year old female driver first hit Steen's patrol vehicle, then ran him over as he stood next to his vehicle.

The traffic stop then escalated to a high speed pursuit through western Sioux Falls that ended when the suspect was shot by officers. Her name and condition has not been released at this time.

Donations to help the family can be made at any Wells Fargo Bank in the country.

You can keep up to date on Steen's condition through his Caring Bridge site.
