It’s boom or bust on August 1, 2017 in the NBA and Sioux Falls Skyforce alumni were on both ends of the scale for this crucial deadline.

What makes this day so crucial in The Association is that players who are not on fully guaranteed contracts have to remain on their respective teams by the end of the day August 1 to advance to the next guarantee milepost. For example, three former Skyforce players fell into this category based on their contract status.

On August 1, Briante Weber would have been guaranteed his full salary with the Charlotte Hornets for the entire season. However on July 28, the Hornets released Weber before having to shell out almost $1.5 million. The bad news is counter-balanced by Okaro White and Rodney McGruder who have established themselves with the Miami Heat and remain with the team and will continue toward training camp.

White and McGruder’s deals differ from the Weber situation slightly. Weber’s guarantee was for the season on August 1. The two Heat players don’t become fully guaranteed for the season until opening night.

There is still hope for some #Brifence in the NBA this season as Weber is now an unrestricted free agent. Any team can extend a training camp offer to Weber so he can try again to make it the hard way.
