During Friday's Police Media Briefing, Brandon Police Chief David Kull says an investigation has determined the cause of a deadly house fire in Brandon.

"The fire started in a vent pipe that went to both the furnace and water heater."

Kull says the fire was ruled accidental. The Brandon Police Chief also told reporters the investigation  found that Valley Springs volunteer firefighter Steven Ackerman, who lost his life in the fire, had a blood alcohol level of 0.189 when he responded to the call.

"Whether this contributed to the circumstances to his death clearly is open to speculation. Although his judgement to respond to this fire in the first place was arguably flawed, we have to remember that Steve was the one that made the correct call to evacuate the structure and that the two firefighters that were on the entry team with him  inside the burning home were able to exit uninjured. At this point, the Brandon Police Department's investigation is concluded."

Aside from Ackerman, the April 12th fire also killed homeowner 47-year-old David Smith.
