SIOUX FALLS, SD — Augustana tallied 21 runs in two wins over Bemidji State on Sunday afternoon.  The Vikings defeated the Beavers 7-2 and 14-1 behind Jenelle Trautmann’s two wins.  The Vikings improve to 21-8 (8-4 NSIC) while the Beavers fall to 7-22 overall and 1-11 in NSIC competition.

GAME ONE
Jenelle Trautmann struck out 10 batters and smashed a two-run home run to lead the Vikings past Bemidji State by a 7-2 margin in game one of a doubleheader on Sunday.  Theresa McMahon also homered and recorded a game-high three hits.

Trautmann threw just 74 pitches in six innings of work without walking a batter and only giving up four hits.

McMahon led off the game with a home run to left field on just the third pitch of the game.  The Beavers answered when Crystal Bowen hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 1-1.

The Vikings scored two more aided by McMahon’s double and Jenny Brown knocked in Carly Peterson and McMahon stole home giving the Vikings a 3-1 lead.  Augustana then tacked on two more in the fifth and sixth, pushing their lead to 5-1.

The Beavers used bevy of bunts to score a run in the sixth, but Traumtann responded with a towering two-run home run to center field giving the Vikings a final lead of 7-2.  Carley Pickett pitched the final inning with keeping the Beavers off the board and notched two strikeouts.

GAME TWO
Chelsi Winscowski collected four RBI and Jordan Schaffer tacked on three to lead the Vikings to a 14-1 win over Bemidji State in the second leg of a doubleheader on Sunday.   Winscowski crushed a three-run home run to lead the Vikings on a nine-run seventh inning.

Jenelle Trautmann tallied her second victory of the day with five innings of shutout pitching while striking out seven.  The sophomore hurler struck out four of the first six Bemidji State hitters to start the game.

Jenny Brown got the Vikings on the scoreboard first with a double and scored on Lindsay Spanton’s RBI groundout. Augustana scored two more in the third with Schaffer driving both in on a single to centerfield.

Two more Viking runs preceded their big inning when Augustana scored a pair in the sixth.  Winscowski doubled in Erin Kempf after Kempf hit her first career triple with two outs.  Carly Peterson scored Winscowski on a single to centerfield after a BSU pitching chage.

Carley Pickett came on in relief of Trautmann to start the sixth inning and gave up just one unearned run in two innings of work.

The Vikings will host cross-town rival University of Sioux Falls on Wednesday, April 10 at 3 p.m.
