Friday night I witnessed my first major police event in Downtown Sioux Falls.

At 9:30 PM, upon exiting my friends vehicle on Dakota Ave., we noticed that the car that had been driving less than 30 yards behind us was being followed by a pack of police cars with their lights on.

The vehicle, which appeared to be a white Chevrolet Impala, was pulled over right in front of the car we just got out of, with nine police vehicles in tow.

We watched the scene unravel from a balcony above.

Policemen were ready behind their car doors, with what appeared to be at least five officers with their weapons drawn. The male driver backed toward the cops and crouched to the ground as officers handcuffed him. Then it was the passenger’s turn, a female who appeared to be between 25-30 years old.

As you can hear in the video, there was a dog present.

The whole scene happened quickly, quietly and efficiently, with officers arresting the suspects and searching the vehicle in under 45 minutes.

The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office website lists that the arrested driver is Drew Allen Lindstrom. It states he is currently in jail with no bond.

No matter where you come from or how long you have lived in Sioux Falls, this is definitely something you don’t see every day in our city. I lived in Los Angeles for seven years and loved to watch car chases when they aired live on TV, but I never thought I’d see one unfold in front of me. Especially in Sioux Falls.

I must say that the whole scene was very quiet and chances are that if you lived in the area, you probably didn’t even know this was going down right in front of your home.

The Sioux Falls Police Department handled it very effectively and professionally.
