Watch the Greatest Pledge of Allegiance Ever

October 12 marks a very important date in this country's history. It was the start of saying The Pledge of Allegiance in our classrooms.

It all began on October 12, 1892. The original version was first recited in public schools to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Columbus' landing.

That very first version was worded exactly like this:

I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

The current version that I grew up knowing goes like this:

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
