Weather Service Warns of Dangerous Wind Chills
SIOUX FALLS – Don’t be fooled by the sunshine in South Dakota. It’s dangerously cold outside.
The National Weather Service has issued wind chill advisories in the Sioux Falls area as temperatures hover around 0 with a wind chill of 26 below. Overnight, the temperature will drop to 5 below. Several cities were under winter storm watches.
Blizzard conditions caused poor visibility through northeast South Dakota on Monday, causing some counties to advise no travel. Blade operator Mike Oelkers told KELO-TV that he broke through drifts of up to six feet.
The Argus Leader reports that Wednesday’s wind chills will be as low as 18 below. About seven inches of snow is expected Thursday, with the danger of blowing snow as winds hit 15 to 20 mph.
