Malcolm Smith of the Seattle Seahawks was named the Most Valuable Player of the Super Bowl. He was set to give a post-game speech, but then this happened.
The linebacker was sat in front of the press, ready to give some more words about his performance in the game, during which he pulled off three incredible plays. But before he could talk about his interception, the huge return in which he scored or the fumble recovery he pulled off, a man ran onto the stage and grabbed the microphone away from him.
The man, according to a report on NJ.com, turned out to be Matthew Mills, a 30-year-old from Brooklyn. What he hurriedly said into the microphone was, “Investigate 9/11. 9/11 was perpetrated by people within our own government.” He relinquished control of the microphone just before officials got to the stage to escort him away. It turns out that Mills was a 9/11 “truther” and used Smith’s moment in the spotlight to offer his own thoughts.
Mills was later arrested for trespassing. His was just one of 10 arrests as of midnight on Super Bowl Sunday, none of which were considered serious. After he left the stage, the attention fell back to Smith, who seemed a little puzzled by what just happened and merely said, “Alright…”
Watch the quick footage of the interruption in the video above and become totally amused by how confused Smith looks at Mill’s assertion on the microphone.
