Friday September 30, 2016 we will see an unusual event in the South Dakota skies. Called a Black Moon, it's a second appearance of a new moon in a calendar month. It's really the opposite of a Blue Moon, two full moon in a month. Officially, the Black Moon happens at 7:11 PM in South Dakota Friday evening.

While a full moon refers to the moment when the moon's Earth-facing side is fully illuminated by sunlight, a new moon refers to the moment when the moon's Earth-facing side is fully in shadow. (Unfortunately, that means the Black Moon will be more or less invisible, even if the moon is high in the sky). -Space.com

A Black Moon is an unusual even that happens about every 32 months. There's really very little to see because it's a new moon, that means the moon moves through the same part of the sky as the sun and the moon's dark side is facing us so we can't see it.
