You're racking your brain trying to come up with something special, something unique, something no one in the universe has ever thought of, to give your Mom. Flowers, candy, jewelry, baked goods, coupons for hugs, plants for her garden, spa day, dinner out? These are all great, but in your opinion a bit mundane.

No!, You want something really extraordinary! Perhaps a seat on the first rocket ride into space for civilians, a week-long Hawaiian cruise, a Napa Valley wine tour, a week in a Paris Airbnb- -all great ideas and if you have the jing, go for it. If you'd care to consider something slightly more affordable, less pie-in-the-sky, I offer for your consideration this list from Jordana Horn, a mother of six and Today.com contributor.

  1. Don't make her remind you about Mother's Day! She has to remind you about ever other thing, big and little, everyday, so for crying out loud, handle this one stinking day on your own!!!
  2. Let her sleep in, just this one day, if none other, or suffer disastrous consequences!
  3. Let her take a shower, all by herself, without interruption.
  4. You handle breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, table setting, and dishes for one blessed day. (And no, don't leave a mess for Mom to clean up on Monday!).
  5. Give her peace. No arguments, no fisticuffs, no hair pulling, no kicking, no throwing stuff- -this applies to children and spouses. For the love of God, give Mom peace!

When I was a kid, we'd go to great lengths to do these things for our Mom (not always completely successfully) and I swear if she were still with me, I still would.

Happy Mother's Day, Moms!
