It's a busy weekend in the Sioux Empire.  Here are a few events you could check out.

October 19, 20 (Friday and Saturday)…SIOUX FALLSJAYCEES HAUNTED HOUSE… 6:30pm-Midnight.  Located at the Fine Arts building at the WH Lyon Fairgrounds.  Admission is $8 or $6 with a canned good.  Military, police, fire and hospital personnel get a $2 discount with your employee I.D.

October 19 (Friday)…NATIONAL MAMMOGRAPHY DAY…The American Cancer Society is reminding women age 40 and over to schedule their annual mammogram.  This year in South Dakota, approximately 600 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed.  When breast cancer is caught early, treatment is more effective and cures are more likely.  (www.cancer.org)

October 19 (Friday)…9TH ANNUAL GIFTS FROM THE HEART ARTS AND CRAFTS SHOW…7am-3pm in the lobby of Avera Heart Hospital, 4500 W. 69th Street.  Find holiday decorations, jewelry, floral, doll clothes, rugs, antique crafts, homemade goodies and more!  Proceeds will benefit the Prairie Heart Guest House.

October 19, 20 (Fri, Sat)…EXPO FOR HER…2-9pm Friday and 9am-5pm Saturday at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.  Two days of fun, shopping, entertainment and pampering for women.  Sample food and drinks, participate in seminars and shop!  First 200 adult attendees each day will receive a gift bag full of free items.  (Admission is $5 or $4 with a canned food item for the Food Pantry.  www.etcsiouxfalls.com)

 October 19, 20 (Fri, Sat)…CAMP JESS…an overnight camp experience for children ages   6-17 who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, grandparent or close friend.  The camp offers music, arts and crafts, recreational activities, small group discussions and education on the grief process.  The event takes place from 5pm Friday to 5pm Saturday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church on West 33rd Street.  (605-312-5500)

 October 19, 20 (Fri, Sat)…SCOTLAND, SD HAUNTED HOUSE…7-11pm at 340 Walnut Street in Scotland.  Proceeds will benefit the Scotland Youth Center.  Admission is $4 for students and $7 for adults.

October 19, 20 (Fri, Sat)…SPOOKY SCIENCE NIGHT, A STROLL THROUGH STORYLAND…5-8:30pm at the Kirby Science Discovery Center at the Washington Pavilion.  A fun, non-scary, family-friendly event.  Costumes are encouraged but not required.  (www.washingtonpavilion.org 367-6000)

October 19, 20, 21 (Fri, Sat, Sun)…SIOUX EMPIRE COMMUNITY THEATER PRESENTS ‘CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF’…7:30pm Friday and Saturday and 2pm Sunday at the Orpheum Theater in downtown Sioux Falls.  (www.sect.org 360-4800)

October 20 (Saturday)…SIOUX FALLS STAMPEDE… 7:05pm at the Sioux FallsArena.  Cheer on the Stampede as they do battle with the Youngstown Phantoms. (www.sfstampede.com)

October 20 (Saturday)…THE CLOSET…If you’re in need of clothing, stop by 700 N.Main and get what you need free of charge.  All sizes, infants to men’s.  Doors open at 9am until all clothing is gone.  Sponsored by The Ransom Church.  (Call 339-3733 for info)

October 20 (Saturday)…ROCK OF AGES…An arena-rock style love story told through the hits of Journey, Night Ranger, Poison and many more. A few tickets are still available.  Shows are at 3pm and 8pm at the Washington Pavilion. (Call 367-6000 or www.washingtonpavilionorg)

October 20 (Saturday)…WALK TO DEFEAT A-L-S…Check-in starts at 9am and the walk starts at 10am at the Empire Mall.  The walk brings hope to ALS patients and raises money for a cure.  (www.alsa.org)

October 20 (Saturday)…COLLEGE FOOTBALL...Augustana Vikings host the University of Sioux Falls Cougars at Kirkeby-Over Stadium at 1pm.  (www.augietickets.com)

October 20 (Saturday)…BOYS SCOUT/CUB SCOUT FOOD DRIVE…Last Saturday households received a “Scouting for Food” bag on their door.  This Saturday, local boy scout troops and cub scout packs will be collecting those bags full of food and donating them to the Food Pantry.  (Jim 335-0364 w/Feeding SD.)

October 20 (Saturday)…USD COYOTES VS NDSU BISON…6pm at Howard Wood Field.  Tickets are $25.

October 21 (Sunday)…PROJECT SEARCH PANCAKE BREAKFAST…7:30am-1:30pm at Active Generations, 2300 W. 46th Street.  Project Search provides employability skills training and workplace internships for individuals with significant disabilities.  (322-5071 $5 in advance or $6 at the door)
