If you're like me, you have to pinch yourself every time you drive by a gas station to make sure you're not dreaming when you see what gas is selling for these days.

What's up with the cheap gas prices?

Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not complaining. I just thought the days of gas below three dollars a gallon were long gone.

At the time of this story, the cheapest gas in Sioux Falls can be found at Sam's Club. You can get a gallon of regular gas there right now for $2.82.

Actually a gallon of regular gas anywhere in Sioux Falls at the moment is in that $2.82-2.87 range. Better top off your tank while you can.

But be prepared to pay more for petrol as you head west. Gas prices are significantly higher in the western half of the state.

The highest gas prices in South Dakota right now are in Belle Fourche, Oacoma and Arlington areas. A gallon of regular in those three towns is selling for around $3.59.

Gas prices in general are hovering around that $3.49-3.59 mark out in western South Dakota.

How long will gas prices stay below the three dollars a gallon? Who knows. Just enjoy it while you can. The holiday traveling season is just around the corner. You know what that means, time for higher gas prices.
