In our little part of the world people make a habit of helping each other, even if they are not quite sure what it is their friends and neighbors are dealing with. I would imagine that is true of a lot of fundraising events around the Sioux Empire. Perhaps like this one, the "Let's Bead for HD & Wine Tasting" coming up at Noon on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at The Market in Downtown Sioux Falls (196 East 6th Street).

What is HD or Huntington's Disease? Here is an explanation from the Huntington's Disease Society of America:

Huntington’s disease (HD) is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and has no cure. HD is known as the quintessential family disease because every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of carrying the faulty gene. Today, there are approximately 30,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease."

I have the honor of knowing several people here in the Sioux Falls area who deal with the consequences of having loved ones who suffer from HD and the fear of developing this unforgiving disease in their own lives. It is truly an education in treasuring my own life and that of my loved ones, even more!

Even if you have no personal reason for supporting this fundraiser; please do. The excellent wine tasting is being hosted by The Market, the bead bracelet making will be hosted by The Bead Co. There will also be a live auction with some great items up for bid with all proceeds going to the Sioux Valley Chapter of the Huntington's Disease Society of America.

Tickets are $60 for the wine tasting and beading session or just $40 for the beading session alone. Seating is limited so please RSVP- - ASAP, to Debbie Stadley at 612-816-0145 or email her at Debstadley@gmail.com. For more information about the HDSA go to their website and to meet some of the brave fighters dealing with this disease please go to the HDSA Sioux Valley Chapter's Facebook page.
