Sometimes it's nice to get back from a long holiday weekend, just so you can rest a bit.

The family and I headed off to Pickstown, SD this past weekend for the long July 4th weekend. Yep, we kept pretty busy along the way.

To start things off we had our first ever July 4th 5K.

We haven't officially named this 'to be yearly event yet,' but we're pretty sure that John Deere and River and Cabin and 'hill from hell' at the end of the run will be included in the eventual naming. As you can tell by the picture, we had a nice number of runners and thanks to Doug *Pictured on right, we even had a 'shotgun start.'  Side note: everyone was the actual winner of their age category.  Brandon was the overall winner of the event. The race was mostly down hill, with the 'hill of truth' at the end of the run.

We also took part in the first ever Frisbee Golf Tournament. Thanks to The Bare Butt Bar for putting that awesome event together including mystery foods and fun drinks in between holes. Side note. I think I better get to the driving range before trying this sport again. I definitely need some work.

We also made several trips throughout the area to look at crops. I enjoy doing this throughout the year, but when the corn and soybeans are growing like they are now, it's nice to get out and see the landscape.

As you can tell by the photos, Dan's corn is well over the Knee High by the Fourth of July standard the old timers talk about. There are 3 people in the picture, Brandon, Dan and Brady. The corn is tall enough to just about hide a grown man. (it's more than tall enough to hide a rogue cow who might like to explore the outside confines of being with the rest of the herd) *inside joke. See Dan, Brady or Brandon Soulek for details.

Yep, we did quite a bit of water skiing and jet skiing too. Saturday, we could have 'wind surfed.' When this group gets together on a boat we get a little bored, and usually dream up something we should try. One of our favorites is skiing 5 people at one time. I'm the second one from the right.

Lake Andes was the place to be Friday night. The firemen put on a great fireworks show and I think I only saw 4 mosquitoes that night. Maybe five.

Yes it was fun! Yes I'm wore out. I gained 4 pounds and have a small area of sunburn where I couldn't reach while applying sunscreen. All in all, it was a blast, and yes, we're already looking forward to July 4th 2015.
