Tuesday we got our first look at the Minority Report TV show. I love that movie, so I was filled with both excitement and trepidation at the prospect of a show. Would they try to remake the move as a show, would they change the setting, who would the story follow?

If you don't know, Minority report, the move, was set in the Washington D.C. of the 2050s. Tom Cruise was a cop that worked for the PreCrime unit stopping murders before they happened. At the center of PreCrime were three people with the limited ability to see the future, known as precogs. They predicted murders, the PreCrime cops arrested the would be murderer. Of course, somebody in a position of power abuses the system to do bad things. No spoilers, you should see it, it's good.

The movie explored the themes of free will, crime prevention verses punishment, surveillance and privacy. It's a rare movie set in a future that is neither post apocalyptic nor utopian.

Based on our first look at the TV series, it looks promising. It's a sequel to the movie, taking place about 10 years after the film. The show seems to center on one of the three precogs from the movie. He's now out of the program and dealing with his ability. He still sees murders, but can't do anything to help the victims.

The show looks like it takes the world of the movie seriously and could explore some interesting ideas. But, based on this trailer I'm a little afraid that the show will end up being a generic crime of the week cop show. Instead of a con artist or a group of kid genius this time it's a guy who can see the future.
