There is perhaps no eating establishment more Americana than the diner. Never the fanciest place in town, but when it comes to serving up good, old fashioned comfort food, at a reasonable price, in a comfortable environment, you can't beat a diner.

The website Mental Floss set out to find the "Best Diner in All 50 States," and in South Dakota, their pick is the Phillips Avenue Diner, in Downtown Sioux Falls.

Mental Floss recommends the banana bread french toast. I love the chocolate milkshakes, and my wife absolutely craves their hot turkey sandwich.

We've been fans of this place so long we remember when it was the Market Diner, and was located at Louise Avenue and 26th Street, back when it first opened in 1996.

The trailer that housed that first restaurant was transported downtown a few years later and is still the heart of the existing restaurant today!

We especially love this time of the year, because the diner's patio opens for the season, giving customers a chance to enjoy a great meal with a great view of Downtown Sioux Falls!

Good call, Mental Floss!
