If you're spending Thanksgiving Day in South Dakota this year, you might see a few frowns.

If you're heading to Iowa on the other hand, be prepared to be absolutely miserable, that is if the folks at the real estate blog Estately are correct.

Estately recently did a study that claims Iowa is the second most miserable state in the nation to spend Thanksgiving in.

It came in right behind Ohio.

All I can say is Ohio must be one miserable state? The way they make it sound, Ohio appears to be about as much fun as being a member of the Bill Cosby fan club these days.

Estately used six criteria to come up with their findings when conducting the study:

  • The likeliness you'll get food poisoning, based on the number of salmonella cases.
  • The likeliness of your relatives getting drunk and making a scene, based on binge drinking rates.
  • The likeliness your favorite football team will lose on Thanksgiving Day. (Thankfully the Vikings don't play every year on Thanksgiving Day huh?)
  • The likeliness of getting into a big political argument, based on how even the split between Republicans and Democrats is.
  • What kind of dietary restrictions the state has, based on rates of diabetes and vegetarians.
  • And finally, the likeliness of people leaving the family meal early to go shopping, based on Facebook data.

South Dakota is the 15th most depressed state when it comes to the Thanksgiving Day holiday. We rank 6th in salmonella cases, 9th in binge drinking, 30th in contentious politics, 36th in dietary restrictions, 22nd in NFL team losing percentage and 29th for enthusiasm when it comes to Black Friday sales.

Minnesota was the 37th ranked state by the way.

If you really want to see a bunch of smiling faces this Thanksgiving, I suggest you spend it in Hawaii.

According to the criteria, Hawaii is the best state in the nation to celebrate Thanksgiving in.

Well duh! Who wouldn't want to celebrate Thanksgiving or any holiday for that matter in Hawaii?

I'll take my turkey dinner on the beach any day!
