‘Star Wars: Episode 8’ Unveils New Cast Members, Teaser, Oh God, It’s Happening
Good morning, happy Monday. Have you settled in at work, shaken the snow off your boots, maybe had a cup of coffee? Good, now hold onto your goddamn hat, because Star Wars is happening again.
Sylvester Stallone Says ‘Creed’ Will Be His Final Appearance as Rocky
So, stop us if you‘ve heard this one before: it’s now 2016, yet another Rocky picture has dealt the box-office a swift uppercut, and Stallone is done, seriously, you’ll see, he means it now.
James Franco Adapting the Epic Twitter Saga of Zola and Jess For the Screen
Last October, a gripping yarn to rival the epic poems of Homer began popularly circulating around the internet. Twitter user @_zolarmoon, an account belonging to one Aziah “Zola” Wells, related the fantastic tale of her ill-fated trip to Florida with a young woman named Jess that she met at Hooters, and captivated a nation...
‘Ghost in the Shell’ Casts Michael Pitt to Star as Villain Alongside Scarlett Johansson
Progress on the Scarlett Johansson-led live-action adaptation of the popular anime Ghost in the Shell continues this week. More than a placeholder for the gap at the center of our collective being capable of being filled only by a Lucy sequel, the projected sci-fi tentpole could give Johansson a second series obligation in the event that it connects with the public...
Funny Man Steve Agee on Board for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’
Marvel has generally been pretty good about keeping the details of their projects under wraps until the very moment that they‘re prepared for the public to know. Less known for rigorous self-discipline and professionalism is comedian Doug Benson, the host of such fine programs as the video series Getting Doug with High and the popular Doug Loves Movies podcast. On a recent installment of DLM, Benson sat down with actor Scoot McNairy to discuss the craft of acting, his recent projects, and his hilarious make-believe name. Somehow, the fact that they are mutual friends with funnyman Steve Agee came up, which led to an inadvertent reveal that the longtime Jimmy Kimmel writer was working on Guardians of the Galaxy 2. (“…[Steve] just found out because he’s in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, he has to shoot that bullsh*t instead of being here with us today,” said Benson.)
‘Mission: Impossible’ Breakout Star Rebecca Ferguson to Lead Sci-Fi Film ‘Life’
The root cause behind the relative longevity of the Mission: Impossible franchise is how each installment adds new delights to the familiar formula. Ethan Hunt and the IMF do pretty much the same thing in each of the five films in the series — recon, planning, Tom Cruise runs somewhere, sex scene, Tom Cruise drives a car off a cliff, Tom Cruise runs somewhere else except now he’s shirtless, you ge
Batman Will Be a Killer in ‘Batman vs. Superman’ Says Producer
It’s a crying shame that Marlon Wayans locked down the title Fifty Shades of Black for his low-rent spoof film set to debut this Friday. That could’ve been a tidily apt label for Zack Snyder’s upcoming superhero crossover Batman vs...

The Redcapes Are Coming in New ‘Batman v. Superman’ Trailer
As Sundance dominated the news cycle this morning, the superhero hype machine continued to grind along. This morning, it spat out a new trailer for the upcoming DC crossover tentpole Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and it just might be the darkest (in terms of deficient lighting and overall tone) yet. The eternal philosophical struggle of men both Bat- and Super- rages on, incapable of finally resolving because both Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne are inside all of us. Henry Cavill’s ridiculous costume glasses: What do they symbolize? Man’s inability to hide his true self, always exposing his nature through non-conscious gestures? Or perhaps they are just a symbol of bad glasses?
‘The Big Short’ Wins Big at the Producer’s Guild Awards
With reporters and pundits at Sundance now madly speculating on the frontrunners for the 2017 Oscars (despite the ceremony being thirteen months away, Casey Affleck appears to be a lock for Best Actor), we might have forgotten that this year’s awards season is not yet over. This year’s Oscar telecast is still a month away, but other Hollywood institutions continue to keep the finger-sandwich industry in the black by gradually rolling out their awards programs in January. Everybody’s got a guild — the Screen Actors Guild will name its recipients on Saturday, the Directors Guild of America has its big shindig the week after, and the Writers Guild of America has laid claim to the week after that.
Channing Tatum, ‘Furious 7’ Declared Everyone’s Favorites at 2016 People’s Choice Awards
If the Oscars are like the electoral college, selecting the cream of the crop through an arcane and confusing process available only to an older, white, male elite population, then that makes the People’s Choice Awards the popular vote...
