There's a fungus among us! Actually there's a fungus among the Cavendish variety banana plantations of the world and it is spreading and soon we could all be banana-less! Sort of.

The Cavendish is the type of banana we're all used to buying in grocery stores, but only accounts for 13% of the 150 million pounds of bananas produced each year. One expert says this could be a good thing citing the Cavendish's tendency toward blandness and bruising easily.

Apparently there are other varieties which are hardier and more flavorful. We may be discovering these alternative bananas soon, as this Cavendish banana killing fungus creeps its way around the globe.
