Cameron Dallas opened up about his recent arrest for an alleged assault in Colorado.

The YouTube star tweeted his mugshot photo, along with a message explaining what happened that night. Dallas claimed he was protecting himself when the incident occurred before wishing his fans a happy New Year.

"Unfortunately sometimes in life you find yourself in a situation where you have to protect yourself and the people you care about," he said. "Have a safe and happy new year, 2019 is going to be an amazing one."

The 24-year-old was arrested early Saturday morning, according to a statement from the Aspen Police Department, obtained by CNN. An ambulance was called to the Hyatt Residence Grand Aspen to treat a man with injuries to his face.

Dallas was charged with second-degree assault after the victim identified him as the attacker. The charge is a felony. After posting $5,000 bond, Dallas was released.

He's due in court Jan. 22.

Fans first became acquainted with Dallas through Vine. He went on to gain 21.1 million followers on Instagram, and then landed a Netflix series called Chasing Cameron.
