During the last days of the Great War, Lt. William Rivers (Bates Wilder) leads a squad of U.S. troops behind enemy lines to locate a missing platoon of African-American "Buffalo" soldiers. Lt. Rivers must overcome his own trauma stemming from the horrors of trench warfare, as well as his own beliefs about the roles and rights of African American soldiers.
