Every New Year my friend picks a word to focus on and inspire her for the new year. You may have heard of the book this tradition comes from: My One Word.

I've seen some families sit down together and each family member pick a word, paint it, and then hang all the art work for everyone to see.

I have adopted this inspirational practice myself. The word I chose this year was:

Conversation

I want to pay more attention to what I'm talking about. I want to pay more attention to what the people I'm talking with are talking about.

There are plenty of great quotes on the importance of our conversations.

"Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people."

-Eleanor Roosevelt

I've combined two of my goals for 2016, one was putting out more poetry for public consumption, and the other being more aware of what I'm talking and why? Conversation.

I released this poem today called Anthem for the Unheld

I find it interesting with all the conversations we have this one seems to rarely come up, and I want to talk about it more this year.

What did you spend the majority of 2015 talking about? What will you spend the majority of 2016 talking about? Do you have a word this year?
