This poor little fella just broke my heart. You just want to give him a hug. He is a new born elephant living in a wildlife park in eastern China.

His mommy stomped him not once but twice and totally rejected him. This little guy cried for 5 straight hours before the keepers were able to console him.

I had no idea that baby elephants had such feelings.  So I contacted Elizabeth Whealy, who is the CEO and President at the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls, and she said: "Just as people grieve and feel pain animals feel loss, too.  Animal responses to loss can seem very familiar to us: crying, whining, and sings of depression."

He apparently is doing better and formed a strong bond with one of the zoo keepers.  Doesn't this just break your heart?
