There is nothing in the world like a tomato picked fresh out of the garden. They just taste better in my opinion. And there's nothing that's more of a pain, to me anyway, than trying to grow them myself.

When I was growing up my mom kept a small garden in the backyard. I should say, we dug up a small space for her to grow some tomatoes. And for some reason, it worked. I've never gone to the trouble to have a garden here in Sioux Falls. I probably should put in more effort. I know I would like the fresh produce for a summertime evening meal. So, I just leave it to the professionals.

Since growing tomatoes and cucumbers is such a mystery to me, I just pick mine up. Farmers Markets around town are a favorite spot of mine in the summer. Over the years I've become pretty familiar with the crew from Hanisch Farms. They have a farm out near Humboldt, South Dakota and it sounds like they have just about everything. I've had their cucumbers, and tomatoes and some of their other products. If you check out the inside of their trailer you can even pick up steaks and other great summertime grillers!

See Hanisch Farms and other awesome vendors at Lake Loraine Farmers Market on Thursday afternoons.
