A standoff situation is in process at this hour in Lake County near Montrose, South Dakota.

The standoff is the result of a police chase that started in McCook County early Wednesday morning around 2 AM that eventually ended in Lake County with an altercation between a suspect and a deputy at the intersection of 453 and 243rd street.

KDLT News is reporting the suspect and a McCook County deputy exchanged gunfire, the deputy was shot in the process. He has since been transported to a Madison, South Dakota hospital where he is currently in stable condition.

According to the report, the suspect is still on foot.

Multiple law enforcement agencies from around the area are on scene setting up a perimeter as they attempt to find the suspect.

A description of the subject is not available at this time, however, he is still believed to be armed, and law enforcement is asking that should you see someone suspicious looking in the area to please call 911 immediately.
