RASDak is shorthand for Ride Across South Dakota, a cycling event that treks west to east across the state and just over a week to complete the full ride.

Primarily it’s about the one ride that will happen this June. Additionally organizer Kasey Abbott says RASDak also wants to give a token of thanks to a couple of the host cities for this year’s event.

“Since this was our 5th anniversary, we wanted to celebrate bike tourism. We decided to donate bike repair stations to the City of Sioux Falls, to the Badlands Park Service which will be at the Visitors Center and Rapid City so that they’ll have one on their bike trail.”

With 20 miles along the Big Sioux River Recreation Trail and Greenway, having three bike repair stations will further enhance the cycling experience. However, Abbott believes the most crucial repair station would be the one in the Badlands.

“We were talking to them early on about things we could do to make the Badlands Park a little more bike friendly. One of the ideas that got kicked around was a bike repair station. If you’re out in the Badlands and your bike breaks down , it’s not like you’re going to find a bike repair shop (nearby).”

Abbott expects approximately 200 riders from across 30 states to participate in the RASDak event. RASDak departs Rapid City on June 4 with stops in the Badlands, Wall, Kadoka, Wessington Springs and Salem with the conclusion June 10 in Sioux Falls.
