On Wednesday afternoon, the Sioux Area Metro released a statement confirming a bus driver tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.

According to the press release from S.A.M., the driver "last drove for SAM paratransit on Friday, April 10 and on Saturday, April 11. The South Dakota Department of Health is contacting all paratransit riders that were on board with the driver on those days.  The driver was wearing a mask and plastic gloves while driving both of those days."

S.A.M. staff began implementing extra cleaning practices in early March, paying specific attention to "high touched areas." In an effort to adhere to social distancing practices, at the end of March S.A.M. started to limit its passengers to only nine per bus and up to two passengers for each paratransit bus.

Officials for S.A.M. are currently looking into further precautions in order to protect its employees and future riders from the spread of COVID-19.
