South Dakota’s Highway Patrol says that it plans to hold 23 sobriety checkpoints during May 2017.

The goal of the checkpoints  is to discourage people from drinking and then driving. During May, 19 checkpoints are scheduled statewide.

Checkpoints are planned for these counties:

  • Beadle
  • Brookings
  • Brown
  • Butte
  • Charles Mix
  • Clay
  • Codington
  • Day
  • Hamlin
  • Lawrence
  • Lincoln
  • Minnehaha
  • Moody
  • Pennington
  • Roberts
  • Stanley
  • Sully
  • Tripp
  • Union
