When Claire Foy was first announced to play Lisbeth Salander following Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara, it was an interesting choice. Imagining Queen Elizabeth II as a ruthless vigilante who makes rapist and awful men pay for their crimes against women was a bit of a stretch. But the first trailer for the reboot of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series has The Crown star rocking a faux hawk and an all-leather get-up, which is more than enough to convince me.

The first trailer for The Girl in the Spider’s Web, which comes from Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez, opens on a minute and a half clip of Foy’s Lisbeth tying up an abusive husband, stealing his savings, and giving it to his wife. Then there’s a tease of a bunch of explosive action, a woman from Lisbeth’s past, a girl falling off a cliff, and a disturbing shot of a body suffocating inside a gimp outfit; ya know, super light stuff!

Lisbeth Salander, the cult figure and title character of the acclaimed Millennium book series created by Stieg Larsson, will return to the screen in The Girl in the Spider’s Web, a first-time adaptation of the recent global bestseller.  Golden Globe winner Claire Foy, the star of “The Crown,” will play the outcast vigilante defender under the direction of Fede Alvarez, the director of 2016’s breakout thriller Don’t Breathe; the screenplay adaptation is by Steven Knight and Fede Alvarez & Jay Basu.

The new film is based on the fourth novel in Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series, which was written by crime journalist David Lagercrantz and based on the late Larsson’s notes, but it looks like it will be a bit different from the source material. The book follows Lisbeth and Mikael Blomkvist, but Steven Knight, who co-wrote it with Alvarez and Jay Basu, has said the film will mainly follow Lisbeth on a solo mission.

The Girl In the Spider’s Web, which also stars Lakeith Stanfield, Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049), Claes Bang (The Square), and Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), hits theaters November 9.
