It was a brazen pumpkin heist in Spearfish, SD. Last Friday, a 100-lb pumpkin was stolen from the vine in a garden belonging to Matthew Murraine.

Murraine believes the gourd burgle was carefully planned.

"They backed right up to the house. They brought a saw. You could see on the stem where they had cut." - Matthew Murraine, from the Black Hills Pioneer

The large pumpkin was still growing at a rate of 2" per day and required 20 gallons of water every four days and a gallon of milk each week for calcium.

The pumpkin was valued at around $200 but Matthew doesn't fret about that part. He said he wants the thieves to feel bad because his 3-year old daughter was having fun helping him grow it.
