Things To Do When You’re Visiting A Farm
Its been a few years since I lived on a farm. OK, its been quite a while. Alright, alright, its been decades. I grew up on a farm, but that was a long time ago.
I still have a connection to farming. My daughter and son-in-law (and 3 Grandkids) live on a farmstead. There's pigs (lots!) and some cows and calves. There's other critters running around the yard too, just like the small farm I grew up on.
But truth be known, I'd be lost on a farm these days. Its a lot different, to say the least. But deep in this 'ol heart-o-mine, I still love the farmers.
And that's one of the reasons I love the thisisfarming.org website.
It's from the folks at SD Corn, and if you've been a 'hard core' farmer for years and are still on the land, its great. But if you happen to be like me, a farm kid from years ago but still like to casually check out farm stuff, this is a great website as well.
And its helpful! You see, when I visit, say, my daughter and son-in-law, I tend to, ah, ask some dumb questions. Since I haven't actually be 'on the farm' for so long, I tend to ask questions that pettain to farming in the 60's, and not so much here in the 2000's. So when i bumped into the 5 Great Things To Do When Visiting A Farm, it was not only helpful, it was plain fun! (I especially liked the advice 'Run Around').
So the next time I'm on the farm I might just appear a wee bit smarter when I'm talking to my son-in-law.
And that's not a bad thing!
