South Dakota 4th of July Celebrations

The 4th of July holds a special place in Americans' hearts and the proof is in the all of the celebrations that go on not only across the country but right here in South Dakota.

This is a very short list of celebrations that we've heard about.

Sioux Falls

Several years ago here in Sioux Falls, they took the 4th of July celebrating up a notch. Now we have an entire day of a Sioux Falls Independence Day Celebration.

Sioux Falls Schedule of Events for July 4th:

7 AM - Fawick Park Fun Run/Walk Check-in for Registered Participants
8 AM - Fun Run/Walk Kicks Off
10 AM - Independence Day Parade begins & runs northbound along Phillips Ave to 6th Street
11 AM - Picnic at the Levitt Shell (6th & Phillips) with free lunch for the first 3,000 people
12 PM - Entertainment begins on the Levitt Shell stage

You can register for the Fun/Run Walk and the Bike Decorating at the Parks & Recreation Department online.

For the Sioux Falls Fireworks, you can head out to the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds for the free family event (no coolers, food & drinks will be available for purchase).

Laurel Ridge Barn 4th of July Celebration

This event at the Laurel Ridge Barn (47675 Slip Up Creek Road, Sioux Falls) starting at 4 PM is also free and will feature-

Aberdeen 4th of July Celebration

Wylie Park is the place, all day long is the time. Storybook Land Theatre will be performing at 7 PM, the municipal band will play at 8:30 and fireworks will follow soon after sunset.

Belle Fourche

The annual Black Hills Roundup is coming up on June 30 through July 4. You can count on tons of rodeo action, the cattle drive, a free barbecue, parades, a carnival, and not one, but two nights of fireworks.

Brookings Uncle Sam Jam

Head over to the Dakota Bank Center (formerly Swiftel) for a day of music & free fun activities. Then take in the huge fireworks show after sunset.

Chamberlain Rock the Bluffs Celebration

This incredible fireworks show takes place at the river on the causeway between Chamberlain and Oacoma.

Custer's Fourth of July Celebration has a whole roster of activities:

Flandreau Fireworks at Sunset - Royal River Casino

Their fantastic free fireworks display begins at sunset in the parking lot.

Hot Springs

The Independence Day celebration kicks off on July 3 with a street dance at Centennial Park.

Then on the Fourth:

12-3 PM Car show in Centennial Park

Huron Independence Day Celebration

From 10 AM to 2 PM, there is a roster of activities:

Lead Gold Camp Jubilee

This annual celebration has quite a history, dating back to 1926 when they called it the Golden Jubilee. This 3-day celebration has a long list of activities, so I'll just whet your appetite with a shortlist. You can find the complete listing at Lead Gold Camp Jubilee.

Lennox Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration

The city of Lennox is famous for this day-long celebration of Independence Day. There is always a fabulous parade, tons of activities in the city park, ball games, and a car show too. The day ends at dusk with a band concert and fireworks.

Madison

The huge Fireworks on Lake Herman display will be from 10 to 11 PM on July 4th.

Mina Lake

The big Freedom Festival is going on Monday, July 3. There will be kids' games, fishing, and face painting, food, historic plane flyovers, live music at 9 PM, and then fireworks at dusk.

Mitchell

4th of July Fun Day at James Valley Community Center, 300 West 1st Avenue in Mitchell. The day begins at 11:15 and continues all day with patriotic games, music & more fun. It's free for members -$1 for non-members

Mobridge

Sitting Bull Stampede Rodeo is a tradition in Mobridge & this year is no exception. Activities kick off on July 2 and wrap up on July 4. You can expect great rodeo entertainment, parades, a carnival, and a fabulous fireworks show on the night of the fourth.

Mount Rushmore Fourth of July

All day on the 4th there will be cultural demonstrations and presidential performances & then that evening the traditional monument lighting ceremony.

Spearfish 4th of July Celebration

The Independence Day parade starts at 12 PM in downtown Spearfish.

Sturgis Fireworks Show

Sturgis Fairgrounds is the location for the fireworks show at dusk.

Vermillion Fireworks Show 2023

This free event begins at 10 PM at a to-be-determined location in town. For more info call 605-624-5571.

Watertown

There is a day of racing going on at Casino Speedway on July 2nd, followed by fireworks that night. The Fourth of July celebration kicks off with a parade at 2 PM from 4th and Kemp and will continue west to the Watertown Stadium.
